UC Santa Barbara invites you to the 2nd annual Gauchos in Tech alumni event featuring a fireside chat with Gary Szilagyi `91. This occasion celebrates those involved in the tech and entrepreneurial industries.

Gary is a vice president at Annapurna Labs, an Amazon company. Annapurna Labs drives innovation for Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, and Gary leads an innovative and nimble engineering team focused on building custom ASICs (application specific integrated circuits) and systems for AWS infrastructure. He came to Amazon as part of the acquisition of Annapurna Labs in February 2015, and he has over 25 years in executive management roles in both large public semiconductor companies as well as start-ups centered in Silicon Valley.

Prior to joining the executive team at Annapurna, Gary was vice president and general manager of the Consumer Business Unit at Qualcomm, where he was responsible for the engineering development and marketing of connectivity solutions for consumer electronics. Gary joined Qualcomm as part of the $3.1Bn acquisition of Atheros, a global leader in wireless and wired communication products. He led worldwide sales at Atheros from 2006 to 2010, during which time the company grew revenue to over $900M and expanded its leadership in the computing, mobile and networking market segments. Prior to joining Atheros, he was the vice president of worldwide sales at Greenfield Networks (acquired by Cisco Systems), and vice president of sales for Marvell Semiconductor’s Communications Business Unit, where he joined as part of the $2.7Bn acquisition of Galileo Technology. He got his start in technology by joining Integrated Devices Technology in 1991 right after graduating from UCSB.

Gary has a BSEE from the University of California, Santa Barbara (Regents Scholar) and a Master in Business Administration from San Jose State University. He and his wife are involved with several charitable organizations and institutions with emphasis on education and higher learning.
