Data Visualization with D3

This workshop is an overview of the D3 JavaScript library for beginners. We will look at some examples of Data Visualization with D3 in the wild and then hack our way through a data set. Sample code will be provided. 

Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of HTML and JavaScript

*Need an HTML refresher? Spend some time on Codeacademy's HTML and CSS bootcamp prep tutorials.


How to Prepare:

• Bring your laptop (fully charged). Bring your charger, just in case.

• Install the Atom text editor (if you don't have one already). Go here: https://atom.io/

• Install Google Chrome (recommended)


Requirements:

  • Growth Mindset

  • A computer

  • An enthusiasm for both learning and talking about the web


Instructor:


Jennifer Shannon, Lead Instructor

Jennifer Shannon is a software developer and educator who has been experimenting with code and hardware for over fifteen years in both professional and academic settings.

As an enterprise trainer and consultant, Jen has worked with Fortune 500 companies and startups, leading engineering teams and key industry stakeholders through emergent trends in technology. As a Lead Instructor she has led numerous full stack immersive, developed curriculum and course offerings, and led training for NYC’s Tech Talent Pipeline, preparing Computer Science undergraduate and graduate students for web development positions.

Jen has a Masters from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU, where she experimented with web technology as a Departmental Fellow, and a BS in Physics from Columbia University, where she researched MATLAB, C, and Computer Vision in a Physics Lab.
