Course Description:

This in-person, two-day workshop covers the fundamentals of mitigation planning for new or updated local, tribal, or special district natural hazards mitigation plans, so that they will address community priorities and needs, as well as meeting the requirements of 44 CFR 201.6 and 201.7.

This workshop describes the planning process, the requirements for stakeholder involvement, assessing risks, and developing effective mitigation strategies. It includes the basic elements of the plan review, approval, and update cycle, as well as tips for implementing and maintaining an approved plan, tracking performance, keeping stakeholders involved, and preventing plans from lapsing or expiring.

Course Objectives:

Define hazard mitigation and identify the benefits of mitigation planning.
Develop or update a local, tribal, or special district mitigation plan.
Identify resources and guidance available for mitigation planning and plan implementation.

Target Audience:

Local and tribal government officials, land use planners, emergency managers, floodplain managers, and others who are involved in the development or update of a local, tribal, or special district natural hazards mitigation plan.

Funding:

Tuition is free.

This course is ASFPM pre-approved for 12 CECs for CFMs.
