I’m probably best known as one of the two co-founders of Overleaf, which I led as CEO for almost a decade. Overleaf is the market-leader in LaTeX-based collaborative writing, and serves over 11 million users worldwide -- students, researchers, teachers and more. By providing modern collaborative authoring tools, Overleaf is helping to make science and research faster, more open and more transparent.Overleaf is part of Digital Science, where I currently lead researcher and community engagement. Digital Science is a brilliant collection of people and products working to transform science and research communication for the better. It's that time again! We're hosting our eleventh #FuturePub on September 25th to coincide with the start of the new academic year. 
The evenings are designed to be fun and informal - we aim to give opportunities to those working on new ideas and innovations a chance to present and get feedback on their ideas. And did I mention the free pizza?
Quite remarkably, this is now the eleventh #FuturePub we've run, since our <A HREF="http://www.freyfogle.com/post/73565925098/the-futurepub-event" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">first back in January 2014</A>, and we're now described as <A HREF="http://easternblot.net/2015/01/28/futurepub/" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="FuturePub 4 review" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">"a staple of the London science tech/publishing scene"</A> (thanks Eva!).
In case this is your first time, here's how it works:

These all fit into a one hour slot (from 7-8pm), to keep the evening fast-paced and fun! Arrive early for pre-talk pizza and drinks! :)

The rest of the evening is then open for discussions and conversations over the remainder of the drinks and/or pizza! We get a great mixture of attendees from the research, publishing and start-up communities, and we usually head to a nearby pub to continue on into the small hours.

 Clustermarket - The Airbnb for scientists
<A HREF="http://www.clustermarket.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Clustermarket</A> is an online marketplace helping scientists, engineers and other technology pioneers to rent lab equipment from nearby institutions and to find the best service providers. The equipment and services listed on Clustermarket are offered by universities, other research institutions and businesses.
Johannes Solzbach is co-founder and CEO at Clustermarket. Prior to co-founding Clustermarket in late 2015, Johannes worked in Corporate Finance for EY and Baader Bank. Johannes holds a Master of Finance from Hult International Business School and a B.S. in Computer Science and Business from University of Augsburg (Germany).
 ARPHA: Next-generation Journal Publishing
Scientific Publishing is now going through what we can call disruptive technological changes, with a myriad of exciting new tools and services being introduced to facilitate processes and provide new insights on managing content, metrics, peer review, production and many more. Can we integrate all these to ease decisions and usability for end users? We will demonstrate <A HREF="http://arphahub.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ARPHA</A> - an end-to-end publishing solution, which combines authoring tool, submission, peer review, production and dissemination, including associates services, into a single online collaborative platform.
Iliyana Kuzmova is Marketing manager at Pensoft - Science Publisher and Technology Provider. Coming from a Communication background, Iliyana is greatly involved in the development and market introduction of Pensoft's products. Implementing a number of in-house developed innovations, tools and workflows, the ARPHA platform represents years of continuous work towards this goal. ARPHA offers the first ever, entirely XML-based, journal publishing solution and is a home of several successful journals like ZooKeys, Research Ideas and Outcomes (RIO) Journal, Biodiversity Data Journal and others.
 data2paper - the data publishing app
<A HREF="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCoCvcHij6Y" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">data2paper</A> is a cloud-based app which uses existing DataCite and ORCID-derived metadata to automate the process of compiling and submitting a data paper to a journal without the researcher having to leave the research space or wrestle directly with the journal’s submission system. We'll demo the app and would greatly value feedback and suggestions from other delegates. 
Neil Jefferies is an experienced Principal Investigator and manager with a record of innovation in academe, large and small businesses. He is currently Head of Innovation at the Bodleian Digital Libraries, University of Oxford. Amongst other responsibilities, he is Technical Director for Cultures of Knowledge (Networking the Republic of Letters, 1550-1750) and on the Steering Group for the Fedora Repository Platform.
 The lean value tree and product innovation
At <A HREF="http://campus.sagepub.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SAGE</A> we are are launching a series of initiatives to support computational social science. In this talk I will describe how we went from idea to launch in our first product in seven months using tools taken from the lean startup playbook. 
Ian Mulvany is Head of technology at Sage publishing. He's interested in the intersection between tech and scholarship and has been involved with a number of products that support researchers.
 Cloud-based computational reproducibility with Code Ocean
<A HREF="https://codeocean.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Code Ocean</A> is a cloud-based computational reproducibility platform that provides researchers and developers an easy way to share, discover and run code published in academic journals and conferences. More and more of today's research includes software code, statistical analysis and algorithms that are not included in traditional publishing. But these are often essential to reproducing the research results and reusing them in a new product or research. This creates a major roadblock for researchers, one that inspired the first steps of Code Ocean as part of the 2014 Runway Startup Postdoc Program at the Jacobs Technion Cornell Institute. The company officially launched the product in February 2017 and today features over 100 publicly accessible and executable "Compute Capsules" accompanying scientific articles.
Seth Green is Code Ocean's Developer Advocate. He assists authors in the submission process and reviews code for computational reproducibility. Prior to Code Ocean, Seth worked as a research specialist at Princeton University and as a Research Associate at Innovations for Poverty Action; He holds an M.A. in political science from Columbia University.
 Collaborative city planning
Urban planning is a hugely complex task, involving thousands of experts and many more stakeholders. Traditionally this is done through a very slow and fractious process of exchanging technical documents between experts and holding meetings with stakeholders.
This process is breaking down. As urban infrastructure becomes more sophisticated, the number of experts has multiplied. And as urban governance becomes more democratic, the number of involved stakeholders has multiplied. Together, this means that the number of documents and meetings has grown exponentially, resulting in massive cost over-runs and delays for major infrastructure projects.
At <A HREF="http://www.podaris.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Podaris</A>, we envision -- and have created -- a new technology that brings agile, inclusive, real-time collaboration to the problem of planning cities. In this talk, we'll briefly discuss lessons learned along the way, as well as the challenges and opportunities ahead of us.
Nathan Koren is an architect, transport planner, and software entrepreneur. He is a co-founder of Futurescaper -- a platform for collaborative strategic planning that is widely used by the United Nations -- as well as Podaris -- a platform for collaborative urban infrastructure planning. Nathan holds a BsD in Architecture from Arizona State University, and an MBA from the University of Oxford. 
 
Making the world more accessible
<A HREF="https://nomadict.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nomadict</A> is an early-stage access-focused startup enabling individuals across a wide range of access categories to discover, rate and share accessible venues. Our aim is to end the marginalisation or exclusion of people with access challenges by harnessing technology.
Katy Alexander is a strategic marketer with a background in STEM publishing. She has worked with startups and established businesses in crafting marketing strategy and executing marketing plans, engaging in deep dive data analytics and behavioural insights generation and designed and launched products across a variety of industry areas. Katy is one of the co-founders of Nomadict. Having lived the challenges that Nomadict is seeking to solve she is passionate about overcoming them.
