NCE Media is the cluster development and innovation project located in Media City Bergen, Norway. We are a unique collaboration of global technology industry, national broadcasters, regional newspapers, academia and small, forward-leaning mediatech companies and entrepreneurs.

Workshop: Machine Learning
This session will examine closer how machine learning can be applied to recommend content to users based on behavior and interests.
Please note: The exercises will be conducted with Python and requires that you (or someone accompanying you to the workshop) is familiar with basic programming and that you bring your own device.
During the workshop you will gain insight into the underlying methodology and how you can evaluate functional correctness, by working through examples and practical exercises as a group. Among other things, we will look at content-based methods, collaborative filtering with matrix factorization, and sequence prediction with deep neural networks.
If machine learning has seemed like a mythical domain to you, this workshop will provide you with a better understanding of the process and help you get started with your own projects.
By David Fredman, Sonat: Fredman holds a PhD in Bioinformatics. He has extensive experience in managing and analyzing large data sets, with a specialization in prediction and data mining. He significant academic experience from international and national research institutions, and has worked with machine learning and prediction in banking, healthcare and media and manufacturing.
Location: Media Lab (Tower 3, 9th floor)
Workshop will be held in English.

How do I get there? Media City Bergen has two entrances - Lars Hilles gate 30 and Odd Frantzens plass 5.
When entering From Lars Hilles Gate 30, go down the stairs on your right when entering MCB. Veer right and walk towards and through the restaurant area until you reach Tower 3. Event staff will guide you to the Media Lab.
If you're entering From Odd Frantzens Plass, turn left after entering MCB and walk towards and through the restaurant area until you reach Tower 3. Tower 3 will be on your left, where event staff will guide you to the Media Lab.

This event is part of the Future Week in Media City Bergen. Future Week consists of a number of research seminars, workshops, breakfast ­meetings, popup-talks, entertainment, demos, presentations, debates, talks and discussions. The topics are mostly within the media cluster’s disciplines but also our partners from different industries and other future oriented environments in the region will contribute with activities this week.
