We are honored to welcome fine art imager Harvey Spector to the 2024 Funkytown Focus!
Even the most seasoned of photographers can struggle for a unique perspective. Inspiring images can come from where you may least expect. Mr. Spector, a former associate at the J. Paul Getty Museum of Los Angeles and acclaimed fine-art photographer of urban and rural nature scapes, will instruct this 2-part workshop.
This event includes an image review and a 13x19" print of your favorite image from this event courtesy of The Print Refinery.
The classroom session will occur at the Fort Worth Camera School of Photography. Time and location for the on-site workshop are forthcoming.
Harvey Spector moved from Los Angeles to Redding in 1999. After graduating from Art Center College of Design he worked as a commercial studio and architectural photographer and spent over a decade as a freelance photographer for the Getty Research Institute. During his years in the commercial field he developed a high level of technical expertise that is also evident in his personal work.
Harvey has exhibited widely and his works are in many private collections.
He is moved to photograph by the joy of visual discovery, the sheer wonder of really looking at things. The process is full of magic and mystery and provides an avenue of self-expression. His best photos often open a portal onto a darker world making him and others feel emotions often avoided.
While he thinks of himself as happy and takes much pleasure in life, his work, beyond dramatic lighting and mystery, may evoke a sense of loss and abandonment. At the same time, he finds visual beauty in these objects and a healing process takes place, repairing him and the world.
These images, then, are his gift to the world.
