Course Description:
Fundamentals of Pregnancy Massage taught by Essie Hicks LMT, owner of Dreamspace Natural Therapeutics LLC provides instruction in a side-lying position massage for a traditional Swedish massage and deep tissue massage techniques safe for the pregnant body.
Two massage sequences will be taught during the seminar and resources for further study of pregnancy massage will be provided as well as review of labor massage and appropriate standards of care within the scope of practice for a massage therapist.
There will also be a discussion on promoting pregnancy massage for the massage practice, and locating clients.
Course Objectives:
- Educate practitioners on safe procedures for giving a safe full body pregnancy massage
- Provide participants with suggestions for safe use of aromatherapy for pregnant people
- Increase the knowledge, competence and confidence for the treatment of pregnant people in the modalities of Swedish and Deep tissue massage therapy, and Labor Massage for the purposes of pain relief, relaxation and decreased pain during labor
Instructor Bio:
Essie Hicks LMT, MPA is a massage therapist and Zentherapy® practitioner in Yelm, WA. She owns Dreamspace Natural Therapeutics LLC which is a small private practice. She taught massage, spa modalities, and deep bodywork for several years and consulted for day and destination spas in the Pacific Northwest. Essie is a mother of 5 children and has extensive experience with massage therapy for expecting parents and collaborating with midwives and doulas.
