Carbine Fundamentals was designed to instill the essential skills needed to employ your Carbine for common defense. This is not a class about firearms ownership, storage & maintenance, it is a hands-on training session focused on building a solid foundation for the intended use of your weapon in defense of yourself, your loved ones, your home, or your country.


As with all of our Fundamental Firearms Training, this class uses a crawl-walk-run training methodology.

Topics covered:

✅ Gear placement & management

✅ Establishing proper zero

✅ Fundamentals of defensive marksmanship

✅ Rapid distance evaluation

✅ "Surgical" shot placement

✅ Proactive & reactive loading

✅ Malfunction clearances

✅Deliberate & improvised shooting positions


Required gear:

  • A modern & practical carbine, battle rifle, or sub gun
  • A sling (2 point recommended)
  • Minimum 2 Spare magazines
  • Accessible method of carrying spare magazines
  • 350 rounds of ammunition
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • A packed lunch & water to last the day
  • An open mind

    Note, for the purposes of this class, no drills will involve a handgun.

Your Instructor:

Clay Folkner is the lead instructor for Counter Violence USA. Clay began his own Firearms Training journey in 2011 after a decade of training and teaching various hand to hand combat systems. He was originally certified as a firearms instructor in 2016, and has earned instructor accreditations from 2Alpha Training, Costa Ludas, and the NRA. Clay continually seeks out the best Combatives, Firearms, and Instructor training available to keep Counter Violence USA’s services at the highest of standards. He is extremely passionate about the art which he’s dedicated his life to, and works every day to improve the personal safety of others & increase capabilities for the average citizen.
