Description: Develop the skills you need to succeed in raising funds to sustain and enhance the mission of your organization.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of diverse funding streams, core elements of fund development planning, and the stages through which a donor moves as their financial commitment increases. Building relationships with donors, identifying and cultivating prospects, and donor stewardship are some of the most important things a nonprofit leader can do to ensure sustainability. A special focus will be placed upon the key elements for success that are essential to every form of fundraising. You will discover best practices to leverage all of your resources, set goals in relation to organizational goals, capacity and your strategic plan, and learn about the development process, tools available to access new funding sources, and ways to assess and improve current fund development practices.

Instructor: Kay Larrick, M.N.A., CFRE is a 30-year veteran in the field of fundraising. Her experience includes raising millions of dollars through successful grant writing, event management, annual giving programs, special appeals, and working with major donors. Kay believes the golden thread that runs through these processes is building good relationships. Kay has a Bachelor’s degree in business from Rockford University and a Masters in Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame.

Kay has earned the designation of CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive). Kay recently retired from her role as Executive Director of Carpenter’s Place where she had worked for the past twenty years. She is a member of NICNE's Professional Services Team, leading consulting projects around fund development, board governance, and interim Executive Director services, among others. She is also NICNE's CollabLab and Special Projects Coordinator.

Certificate in Nonprofit Management Program Details: Leading a successful mission-driven nonprofit requires more than goals and plans; it requires concrete knowledge and skills. NICNE’s five-course Certificate in Nonprofit Management program, completed by more than 100 local nonprofit leaders, will teach you the skills you need to strengthen your organization and better achieve your mission.

Each of the five courses is led by an accomplished expert in their field; Instructors include nonprofit executives, doctorate and master-level leaders committed to collaboration as a tool to drive social change, and instructors and guest speakers with advanced certifications and decades of experience in nonprofit leadership.

If you are a new or seasoned leader wishing to broaden or refresh your skills, seeking a leadership position in the nonprofit sector, or a board member seeking to serve in a more strategic advisory role, this program is for you! This program is also a great fit for people shifting careers from the for-profit to the nonprofit sector.
