A mathematically-inclined playwright on the autism spectrum reevaluates his life and career as he approaches his fortieth birthday in the wake of the COVID shutdown.
A mathematically-inclined playwright on the autism spectrum approaches his fortieth birthday in the wake of the COVID shutdown. Despite having a master's degree in mathematics he can only find work as a volunteer tutor in low-income neighborhoods and lives with his less-than-understanding parents. As he deals with isolation and a lack of professional and personal success, such as the neurodiverse theatre company that ousted him after agreeing to stage his work he contends with his Pollyannaish grandmother, his yuppie brother about to get married and a fellow spectrumite far less socially adept. He finds that while the world is not as orderly as mathematics, and the glass may not be half full, it’s not entirely empty, and things are not over yet.
Anton Spivack * (Writer/Performer) is thrilled to share his story for the first time in full length. Growing up a math whiz, but always with a passion for theatre and storytelling, he joined the TAYPE (Theatre Askew Youth Performance Experience) Workshop in 2007, which led to him writing his first full-length play, Mixed Messages. He and his father, composer Larry Spivack, have written two full-length musicals together, The Amber Crystal and Let Down Your Hair! Anton has also performed in local productions of Spring’s Awakening, The Wizard of Oz, The Tempest, The Little Prince and Peter and the Starcatcher. Thank you to Caveat for allowing him this space, and to his six biggest fans—Mom, Dad, Bubby, Misha, Beth and the newest member Sasha.
Marjorie Lipari (Director), aka Mudra, is an actor, singer, composer, writer, artist, Interfaith Minister and spiritual counselor. Opened in the original cast of Hair on Broadway, covering the role of Crissy. Was a member of LaMaMa company that sailed to Europe back when. Has performed her own play with music, The Mother Stories, to be staged again, and Grace and Captain (A Kind of Conversation). Working with Anton, she says, has been a true educational experience and an honor.
