This 1 ½ -hour introductory class is designed for caregivers of children and adolescents with developmental disabilities who are nonverbal or have limited verbal language skills. Attends will learn how to develop a “functional communication system” for their child through pictures, as well as how to encourage initiation, exchange of picture symbols, and ways to teach that pictures can symbolize spoken language. Caregivers of children with limited verbal skills may consider attending both “Functional Communication Training” courses.
