Event description
Join Cannupa Hanska Luger and the Coe for the unforgettable conclusion to Function.

About this Event

Function is a play on the functional aspects of clay as a tool for practical use, and of art and food as means for bringing people together.

In collaboration with Santa Fe Clay, Paseo Pottery, and Littleglobe, Function began in April 2019 with a series of community workshops where Luger led participants in the production of clay plates to be used as dinnerware at the project’s culmination on August 15, 2019. This plate-making experience is mirrored by the collaborative effort of making the dinner with local chefs and the young people of Santa Fe Youthworks Culinary Arts program. The meal, prepared in clay vessels, whether a comal, tandoori oven, micaceous bean pots, tagines, or ceramic Dutch ovens, will be served family-style at the Coe Center’s parking lot.

While the plates were created in April, we have reserved a very limited number of seats for the dinner itself—to expand the reach of the evening's conversation.

At the dinner, participants will share in the food and then at the end of the meal, stand and shatter their dishes creating a life-long experience that is greater than holding onto an object. Luger will grind the remnants into clay grog to be used as a stabilizing tool in his next creations bringing the project full circle.

Function is simultaneously profound and silly, memorable and ephemeral, triumphant and mundane with the end goal of “turning a table into a bridge.”

Function opens at 5:30 and dinner begins at 6pm.
