Welcome to Fun With Polymers!

Come join our weekly homeschool STEAM Club for a hands-on experience with the fascinating world of polymers at Main | Detroit Public Library. This event is perfect for anyone curious about the science behind everyday materials.

Have fun learning about making and using polymeric materials. The hands-on STEM activities include: cross-linking slime, understanding how polymers can trap air (balloon activity, PS cups, and PU Foam), and exploring how easy it is to recycle plastics used in packaging.


Activities/Demonstrations:

Polymer models and balloon activity

Thermoplastics - Polly Plastic, beads in a cup model

Thermosets - Polyurethane foam, making slime in a bags

Recycle symbols and packaging - laminated cards and packaging samples.


*Students can bring in 1-2 empty plastic packages for the recycle discussion/activity.
