Since 1989 we have planted over 146,000 trees in the City of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. We continue to plant along city and residential streets and within parks and playgrounds.

Detroit is an urban area - that makes trees a vital part of city living. Trees are key to our quality of life, public health and provide enumerable environmental benefits. They help reduce extreme heat, manage storm-water, and create and clean the air we breath. Now more than ever we need to be protecting and expanding our urban forests!

C ome join us for a fun filled day of planting trees and helping to expand Detroit's canopy cover. All ages are welcome and training and tools will be provided on-site.

Organized by

The Greening of Detroit's mission is to provide sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, greenspaces, education, training and job oppotunities.

34 years ago, we responded to Detroit's need to restore its urban forest through tree plantings. As the needs of the city changed and grew, we continued to respond with increasing Detroit's green infrastructure, and creating a workforce training program for adult residents with barriers to employment. We believe there is tremendous opportunity to create and inspire a new green paradigm for Detroit.
