From Start to Scale: Doing More with Less at a Bootstrapped Startup

Par Startup Boston
CIC - BostonBoston, MA
sept. 16, 2019 to sept. 16, 2019
Aperçu

How do you get off the ground and grow when your company is still in its infancy?

This panel will cover the keys to successful bootstrapping and moving from start to scaling with few resources.  Panel members will share their myriad experiences so that their pain can be your gain:

  • Should you save before building a company?

  • Should you work full time while building a startup on nights and weekends?

  • Once you have traction and enough capital, how can you scale without taking diluted funding?

  • What are some hard lessons you’ve learned from bootstrapping?

  • What has bootstrapping stood in the way of?

You’ll learn this and more in this candid conversation about accelerating on limited resources.

This event is part of the Founders & C-Suite Track at Startup Boston Week 2019. And is perfect for companies in the Early Stage and Growth Stage.

Our Speakers:

Andrew Bialecki - CEO & Co-founder, Klaviyo

During the first 3 years of Klaviyo, Andrew and his co-founder bootstrapped the company. Fast-forward to today, Klaviyo now has 200 employees and brings in an estimated $48.6M in revenue annually. Their approach? They build a profitable company before looking for funding.

Todd Garland - Founder & CEO, BuySellAds

Todd has spent the past ten years growing BuySellAds to one of the largest advertising marketplaces on the web. His startup now competes with industry giants, selling over 6 billion ad impressions each month. BSA now has 52 employees and an estimated $34.5M in revenue. And they've done all of this without ever raising outside capital.

Josh Band, Founder & CEO, Plate Crate

Josh Band has successful grown Plate Crate to become the leading baseball subscription box in the industry. As a former baseball player, he wanted to give players something to look forward to every month. Since then, this bootstrapped company has transitioned into a 7-figure business.

Stephanie Rowe, Founder & CEO, Joulez

At Joulez, Stephanie is reimagining STEM for every girl by designing experiences that inspire them. What started as a bootstrapped company and is now becoming a movement, Joulez helps change the way girls see the world and in doing so, changes the possibilities girls see for themselves.

Our Moderator:

Michelle Carazas - Co-Founder & CEO, Host

Michelle's background as a full-time bartender became the jumping-off point for launching Host, a bartender sharing app for events that may need an extra hand serving cocktails. With the launch of the bootstrapped company in 2018, the company has been expanding quickly throughout Boston
