Friendster

If you’ve used CTA recently, you’ve likely come across a certain stark white ad campaign promising companionship, understanding, someone to lean on. In other words, a friend (dot com). But not any ordinary friend. An AI friend. AI? Friend? You’re just catfishing yourself. AI is no one’s friend.

In these increasingly isolating times, IRL-based community is needed more than ever. And what better way to cultivate that than through the power of laughter? From the hearts and minds of Alex Ubalde and Megan Metzger, “Friendster” is a monthly traveling showcase/social mixer where Chicago’s friendliest and funniest comedians regale audiences with tales of group chat drama, workplace crushes, and all the other silly things that make humans human (AI could never).

The crowd, emboldened to share more about themselves, will also have the opportunity to make friends with one another in between sets. Each participant receives a Friendster bingo card with prompts like “exchange socials” or “make a coffee date.” If you complete your bingo card, you get a prize! But more importantly, you make a friend.
