About this event

The residential neighborhood of French Park in Santa Ana, California is a community of single and multi-family residences designated as a local historic district in 1984 and a national historic district in 1999. Tour-goers will appreciate French Park's unique street pattern and architecture dating to the late 19th century. Residential styles such as Queen Anne, Colonial and Period Revival, Craftsman and Modernist are all in evidence here in large and small houses and apartment buildings. Also in evidence is the history of the first generation of city dwellers that shaped the new city of Santa Ana and the new county of Orange.

Your guide will be Tim Rush, a founding board member of the historic preservation organization, Preserve Orange County. Tim is an historian, preservation advocate, and real estate executive. Tim has a successful history of civic and preservation advocacy in Santa Ana, where he is a long-time resident. He chaired the Spurgeon Clock Tower Restoration Committee; co-authored the list of historic buildings which became the basis for the original City of Santa Ana historic register; and today is the Chair of the Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana. Tim's tour will touch on the efforts of residents of French Park to obtain historic designation, and the preservation issues that remain a challenge.
