About this event

🧿Welcome to Serenity Sundays!🧿

Based within the practice of Karma Yoga, yoga of service, we are hosting donation-based yoga classes on Sunday mornings in the park for all levels.

This practice is a spiritual meditation, a community gathering, a physical benefit for all muscles in the body, and much more.

Join us to connect with like-minded individuals seeking positive transformation and mindfulness in a serene setting.

What to Expect:

Vinyasa Flow (50 min)

We will ease into the practice through breathwork and grounding.

After warming up, we will gradually reach our peak flow for a full-body workout.

Finally, we wind down with meditative floorwork for a deep stretch and final rest.

Expect to relieve muscle tension and naturally expand your lung capacity, through accessible movement followed by relaxation.

Yoga Philosophy (5 min Intro + throughout practice + 5 min closing)

Each week we will share knowledge of yoga from ancient texts, that will help you in practical ways in the modern world. We will introduce the theme at the beginning of class, and touch on each topic while you are in each pose.

Optional Hands-on Adjustments 🙌

We will provide light assistance in postures to stretch deeper, for anyone who wants to opt-in.

All Levels Welcome 🙏

Whether you're an advanced yogi or never tried it before, yoga is for everyone. Modifications are provided for many poses, making it an accessible practice of breathwork and movement. This is your welcoming, non-judgmental, individual practice that follows your own energy level. Just have fun!

Series Theme: Ancient Wisdom

Drawing on knowledge from Hindu scriptures written thousands of years ago such as The Bhagavad Gita, as well as other sacred books rooted in Bhakti Yoga philosophy, we will share the history and teachings of 'yoga' in all of its forms.

While we lead you through the physical asanas (poses) that many modern yogis are familiar with, we may touch on the following topics:

  • The meaning of 'yoga' and purpose of postures
  • The 4 Types of Yoga (Lifestyles): Bhakti, Karma, Jnana, Raja
  • How to practice yoga off the mat
  • The 8 Limbs of Yoga (asana is one!)
  • Moral Disciplines + Duties of the Yogi (Yamas + Niyamas)
  • Discussions of the Bhagavad Gita (one of the greatest epics of all time!)
  • Mantras and Mudras... and more!

While all topics can be explored in-depth, we will provide a basic overview to help you deepen your understanding of these very interesting approaches.

P.S. This is not new age spirituality, nor is it judgmental of modern styles. Yoga is evolving across centuries and cultures. We will do our best to pass on the objective teachings and fundamentals of yoga philosophy. It is our duty!

Warning: These topics may change your life :)

How to Prepare:

  • Arrive early to get settled. Free street parking is available.
  • Bring your yoga mat (or blanket, we will be on grass).
  • Wear something comfortable you can stretch in, bend over, etc.
  • Sometimes it's cold, and sometimes you need sun protection, though there is shade.
  • There are park bathrooms.

♡ Donations Appreciated ♡

Thank you for your support in providing affordable yoga to the community!

If you would like to contribute any amount, you may donate cash/venmo/zelle at the event. We appreciate you 🩷
