The Shark Garden is part of the New Start Community Garden, a nonprofit teaching garden in Burien, Washington. We offer free classes in organic gardening, cooking, art, and environmental science. Classes are held in the garden.

New Start Community Garden

Winter pruning is an important part of fruit tree maintenance! Come learn how to take care of your fruit trees from the experts at City Fruit. We will see how, where, why, and when to prune certain trees and then have a chance to practice in the Shark Garden orchard. Now, in winter, we will be looking primarily at apples and pears. A class about pruning figs is also taking place later this day if you want to sign up for that too.We will provide expert guidance and the tools of the trade for practice. You can bring sturdy shoes, garden gloves, and weather appropriate clothing. We will be out in the orchard during the whole class.Funding to support this class was provided by the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources Urban and Community Forestry Program.
