Free the Land! Free The People! a study of the abolitionist pod

Crenshaw Dairy Mart (CDM) is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Free the Land! Free the People! a study of the abolitionist pod," as part of PST ART: Art and Science Collide . This groundbreaking exhibition showcases CDM's innovative approach to addressing systemic issues through art, architecture, and science via a project called abolitionist pods.

Since its inception in 2021, Crenshaw Dairy Mart has been at the forefront of community empowerment through the creation of abolitionist pods: autonomously irrigated, solar-powered gardens housed within modular geodesic domes. These pods serves as symbols of resilience and self-sufficiency for communities impacted by food insecurity, housing instability, and the prison industrial complex.

Alongside workshops on food justice, art, and healing justice, CDM's abolitionist pod project reimagines community care and demonstrates how art, architecture, and science can collectively tackle systemic challenges.

Opening Reception - Saturday, September 21, 2024

The opening reception for Free the Land! Free the People! a study of the abolitionist pod will celebrate and build on the work of food justice organizations, artists and community members and will feature workshops by our community partners, Creative Acts, Black Farmers meetups led by WOW Flower Project and a chance for guests to visit the exhibit in our CDM Gallery.
