About this Training:

This training is for supervisors of Blueprint-funded Community Health Workers. Training Description: This training focuses on the important role of the supervisor for support, advocacy, and sustainability of the CHW role and workforce. Topics include systems thinking, upholding the roles and boundaries of the CHW workforce, staff development including performance reviews, and supervisor action steps for developing their teams.

About the Trainers:

James Figueiredo, M.Ed. Executive Director

James Figueiredo leads CWI’s multidisciplinary team providing training and technical assistance for healthcare systems, health departments, and educational institutions. He has over 3 decades of experience working in the public health field throughout the United States and internationally. Today, his work is primarily focused on the professional development of community health workers (CHWs) and CHW Supervisors. James is a chapter author for the 3rd Edition of the Foundations for Community Health Workers textbook. James is currently serving as Committee Chair for a Boston Public School establishing the first state approved CHW Core Competencies training program.

Marilyn Gardner, RN, BS Director of Clinical and Cross-cultural Education

As Director of Clinical and Cross-cultural Education, Marilyn develops and coordinates CWI’s cross- cultural and clinical courses. Her work includes relationship-building in marginalized and under-resourced communities to better understand both the strengths and challenges that communities face in accessing health and human services.
Marilyn is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in health care administration. She also has a graduate certificate from Suffolk University in health and human service management. She is a certified cultural competency trainer through the former National Asian Women’s Health Organization as well as a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor. She is passionate about understanding more of what it means to communicate across the boundaries of culture and faith.

 Explain and effectively communicate workplace professional boundaries for CHWs
 Identify strategies to support CHW professional development
 Communicate to amplify the CHW role and amplify the value of this profession
