A free workshop with Los Angeles based filmmaker and performer, Mariah Garnett.

SNF Parkway Theatre

Mariah Garnett blends documentary, narrative and experimental filmmaking practices to make work that accesses existing people and communities beyond her immediate experience. Using source material that ranges from found text to iconic gay porn stars, Garnett often inserts herself into the films, creating cinematic allegories that codify and locate identity.This workshop is based on Mariah Garnett&#x27;s film, Signal (included in Friday night’s program), for which she culled together a narrative script out of a collection of her own SPAM emails. Participants will attempt the same, using a Borroughs &quot;cut up method.&quot; At the culmination of the workshop participants will create a 2-5 page script using SPAM emails and other found text. The goal is to transform the original meaning of the text by changing its context.This free workshop on Saturday morning is open to the public.
