A﻿bout the EventJoin us for a pre-show workshop focusing on breathing life into unconventional materials with WOLF PLAY’s puppet coach, Lake Simons. The workshop will culminate in an end-of-session conversation. You can join us either as a participant or observer. This hour-long interactive demonstration will explore what exactly a puppet is or can be, how to find them in everyday objects, and why we emotionally invest in them. Through this session, participants will get an inside look into some of the rehearsal techniques, philosophy, and exercises that helped shape the puppetry audiences will see in WOLF PLAY. Tickets to WOLF PLAY are NOT required for participation. T﻿his workshop will begin promptly at 6:00 pm in the NEWMAN MILLS THEATER located at MCC Theater (511 w 52nd street). The interactive demonstration will last around 40-45 min with a 15-20 min conversation to follow. About Lake SimonsLake Simons is a Texas raised and Brooklyn based director, designer, puppeteer, and a physical theatre performer. Lake has collaborated with a multitude of musicians, performers, designers, and artists throughout her lengthy career as a theatre artist and maker in NYC and Texas creating experimental movement and puppetry driven theatre. She and her (most constant) collaborative partner, John Dyer, have created over a dozen original productions. Lake has received multiple Jim Henson Foundation grants in support of her original puppetry productions. Her past commissioned puppetry productions have been presented by Miller Theater at Columbia University, Texas Woman’s University, and Dixon Place in New York City. Her productions have been produced by many New York theaters including HERE Theatre, La MaMa, Dixon Place, One Arm Red, and Theatre for a New City. Lake worked as the Associate Puppetry Director for Warhorse on Broadway as well as for the National Tour. She has designed and built puppets for many productions and artists in NYC and elsewhere including New York Shakespeare Festival, Basil Twist, Shara Nova (My Brightest Diamond), Dan Hurlin, Chris Green, Christopher Williams, and Kristin Marting. Most recently Lake took the helm of her family’s 47 year old theatre, Hip Pocket Theatre in Fort Worth, Texas, in the role of Managing Artistic Director. For over 25 years she has contributed as a director, performer, and designer with Hip Pocket. Lake is a co-director for the Puppet Lab at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY.
