About this event

Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), these experiences will allow you to pause all stress, slow down, and deepen your relationship with the natural world (including ourselves and other humans). Just like that, the forest will have the opportunity to heal your body, mind, and spirit.

Research shows that guided forest bathing/forest therapy experiences offer a broad spectrum of health benefits, including (but by no means limited to):

  • strengthened immune system
  • lower blood pressure
  • reduced stress
  • improved mood
  • restored ability to focus, even in people with ADHD
  • accelerated recovery from surgery or illness
  • increased energy levels
  • improved sleep

This forest medicine will linger in your system for days, if not weeks, after you leave.

Yes, you can go to the woods alone, but just like a yoga class, being guided allows you to surrender even deeper to what is present.

Expect to see, smell, listen, touch, and maybe even taste. If you are lucky, you might lose track of time (no worries; your guide won't). You will share stories along the way and enjoy a cup of forest tea with snacks at the end of each walk.

We will not be hiking but moving slowly and pausing in selected spots along the way, covering a distance of about one mile. Given Marshall Mountain's history as a local ski hill, we will encounter some uneven terrain and mild up and downhill sections.

With this in mind, please dress appropriately. Bring sunscreen and/or layers for sun protection as needed. You'll be invited to sit at times, so you're welcome to bring along something to sit on, like a blanket, towel, or foam pad. I will have some for you, too, so don't worry about it. Please also bring water for the duration of our two hours together.

I am a Forest Therapy Guide, certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Guides are not therapists, and these walks are not intended as therapy; however, the practice itself can be considered therapeutic. The guide helps open the door to nature's healing properties.
