Forest Pest First Detector Training

Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program

Come volunteer with us! First Detector volunteers are our front-line defense against invasive tree pest infestations. The Vermont Forest Pest First Detector Program is hosting a free volunteer training session on Saturday, May 18 2019, in Grand Isle.
This basic, introductory workshop is intended for anyone interested in volunteering to:
1)  inform the public about the threat Vermont’s primary pests (the emerald ash borer, Asian longhorned beetle, and oak wilt) pose to Vermont’s trees, and
2)  assist their communities in responding to infestations
We will be covering: the basic biology of emerald ash borer and other invasive pests that threaten Vermont's trees; ash tree identification; actions to take if you suspect an infestation; and volunteer opportunities. There will be an optional tree identification walk at 3:00pm.
The workshop is appropriate for anyone interested in learning about invasive forest pests and for current and former First Detectors who want a refresher course.

The training is free but registration is required. Space is limited and registration will close May 10th.
