About this event

Forest Bathing

Join us for a relaxing, refreshing, and rejuvenating experience of Forest Bathing on Sat Oct 21, 2023 at 1:30 PM (CDT). This event especially welcomes those impacted by cancer, either directly or indirectly, and provides a positive outlet towards recovery, healing, gratitude, connection, remembrance, resilience, and hope. Healthcare practitioners are encouraged to join.

Guided by Leigha Horton, Co-Founder + Program Director of Silvae Spiritus Northwoods Nature Retreat, this session explores the practice of Forest Bathing, known for its positive impact on physical, emotional, cognitive, and mental health. Beyond these benefits, Forest Bathing provides the opportunity to connect with nature and the more than human world by slowing down and utilizing all of our senses to carefully observe and notice how we are interconnected. Hosted by Mississippi Park Connection.

Forest Bathing, also known as Shinrin-yoku, is a practice that involves spending time in a forested area to improve overall well-being. It is a gentle and mindful way to connect with nature, reduce stress, and enhance mental clarity.

During this event, our experienced guides will lead you through a series of sensory activities that encourage deep relaxation and connection with the natural environment. You will have the opportunity to engage your senses, listen to the soothing sounds of the forest, breathe in the fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

No prior experience is required, and all ages are welcome to participate. Please come dressed comfortably and bring water, as we will be spending time outdoors. Prepare to unwind, recharge, and leave feeling refreshed! We'll meet at the Pavilion in Crosby Farm Regional Park.

Spaces are limited, so make sure to reserve your spot in advance. We look forward to seeing you at this transformative Forest Bathing event!

Accessibility

Our Minnesota Forest Bathing walks are not typical hikes, naturalist-led tours, or therapy sessions. Instead, they are expert-guided walks that resemble effortless meditation through tactile connection with nature. We offer invitations to connect with your surroundings, encouraging a slower pace to deepen your connection with the healing power of nature. This walk will last two hours, include sharing circles, respect your autonomy, and cover no more than 1.5 miles on flat terrain.

Where to Park

Free parking is available in the Crosby Farm Park parking lot. Meet at the pavilion.

Things you will need

  • Yourself
  • Give yourself the gift of spaciousness: plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the walk to park, walk to the location trailhead, use the restroom, etc. to ensure the walk can begin on time.
  • Prepare for the weather and environmental conditions appropriate to each season. For example: sunscreen and bug spray in the warm months, a raincoat if rain is in the forecast (we still walk in the rain, as we find it heightens the senses).
  • Dress in layers, warmer than you think you’ll need. Since we’ll be moving very slowly, you won’t be able to rely on body heat to keep you warm.
    • Long pants (just in case of ticks)
  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated for the duration of the walk.

What to expect

  • Whether you're a newbie or a nature enthusiast, from houseplant lovers to lifelong backpackers, all are welcome on our walks.
  • Upon arrival, our experienced guides will greet you, handle check-in, and provide time for a bio-break and self-care to ensure your comfort.
  • You'll then receive expert guidance through sensory invitations, including a sense of connection.
  • Each walk ends with light refreshments.
