FOR US is an artists-led forum exploring the voices of our  community from successes, concerns and how to sustain positive impact!

MusicTown Detroit

Designed by Afro Moone &amp; community, FOR US serves as an artist-focused forum and collective vehicle for advocacy, equity and community building. For Us holds space to ensure we have the tools for evolution through radical design within the creative ecosystem. Our goal is to listen, raise awareness, and foster safe spaces for creative liberation.H﻿osted by D.CIPHER &amp; Music Town Detroit this forum will explore the topic artist value, ancestral impacts, current innovations, concerns and best practices to navigate inequitable situations. Join us as for a powerful evening of community building!Detroit is the Mecca of arts and culture. Local and international artists showcase their amazing talents in community spaces and legendary landmarks all over the city. What makes Detroit legendary better yet, WHO makes Detroit legendary? How can we identify our values through interaction and equitable practices? FOR US welcomes us to explore “Artist Value” perspectives with community, pioneering organizers and artists extraordinaire who’ve uniquely traversed societal and economic inequities. Check out this months guests:<h2>A﻿rtist Skill-Share</h2><a href="https://harukihakoyama.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Haruki Hakoyama</a> is a musician, producer, and educator based out of the metro Detroit area. He is an accomplished bassist, trumpeter, and guitarist that is equally known for exploring various other instruments to bring a cohesive hue to his music. <h2>Panelists</h2><a href="https://www.laurenahood.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lauren Hood</a> Lauren A. Hood (Detroit, Michigan) is a writer, city planner and community developer with a focus on the imaginative capacities of the arts. In 2021, she founded the Institute for AfroUrbanism (IAU), a research organization for strategic development focused on the ideation and enrichment of Black communities. Hood’s work as a writer, mediator, public speaker and consultant employs strategies of storytelling, place-keeping and relational address to conceive of a community’s past harms, present needs and future possibilities. <a href="https://roottobloom.earth/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nayomi Cawthorne</a> (she/they) studies bodies: of land, of plants, of humans. She studies their physical and energetic connections, relationships, and languages. Nayomi integrates traditional knowledge of land and mindfulness into her practice of sustainability. She has studied crop cultivation and traditional foods around the world. Her agricultural work as a farm hand and farm manager has taken her to Palestine, Jordan, Guatemala, India, West Virginia, and Detroit.<a href="https://www.isisdamil.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">I﻿sis Damil</a> is a Detroit-bred singer and songwriter. Her fiery, mezzo vocals blend with jazzy R&amp;B melodies to share stories of confidence, sensuality, and spirituality. Coupled with her signature bold animalistic style, Isis Damil’s soulful storytelling empowers women to untame their inner spirit animals, surrender to their intrinsic intuition, and define their own standards for femininity.<a href="https://detroitrecordings.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bryce Detroit </a> is the multimodal Afrofuturist artist, activist, griot, designer, and pioneer of Entertainment Justice. As a national award-winning music producer and curator, Bryce Detroit utilizes his social practice to demonstrate the power of using music entertainment arts, sociocultural iconography, and native legacies to preserve, produce, and promote new Diasporic Afrikan narratives, cultural literacies, and cooperative neighborhood-based economies.<h2>O﻿rganizations</h2><a href="https://Dcipher.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">D.Cipher </a>is the Music Mastermind Collective dedicated to amplifying Michigan’s music economy through career development and collaboration.<a href="https://www.instagram.com/afromoone/?hl=en" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">A﻿fro Moone</a> is a Detroit-based holistic resource providing integrative activation through advocacy design, media production and accessible wellness resources for community care.<a href="https://www.audacy.com/musictowndetroit/latest/about-us" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">M﻿usicTown</a>- Welcome to MusicTown Detroit – an experience built for musicians (national and local), aspiring artists, and everyone else who sings in their car or hums at their desk. A place with live broadcasts, recording studios, places to learn, and intimate performance spaces. We work with students in surrounding schools, developing artists, and industry professionals as we strive to become a space for exchanging history and ideas as well as being entertained.
