About this event

  • 1 day 8 hours

Folks in the Forest is a recurring series all about getting Folks in the Forest in new and different ways. The Women’s Bikepacking Weekend serves as a friendly and approachable bikepacking overnighter for women of all experience levels and backgrounds to get out in the woods together.

Friday April 26th is a pre-ride social with demos and a Q&A session. This is a great opportunity to meet the ladies we’ll be riding with, work out any kinks in your set-up, pick up rental bags or bikes, and see a couple different bikepacking set ups. Registration isn't required for the Q&A session, so just drop in if you'd like to join us!

Saturday April 27th, we will meet at The Hub to pack up our bikes and roll into the forest! Overnight parking will be available in the upper gravel lot. We recommend arriving by 11am to pack your bags and double check your set up. Feel free to grab coffee from The Velvet Cup or any last minute snacks and gear from The Hub. Wheels roll at 12pm.

**Route into the forest TBD.**

Campsite will be at the Upper Cove Creek group site. The site has a pit toilet, fire ring, and picnic tables. The Hub will be providing firewood, beverages, and some small snacks. Riders are responsible for carrying their own clothing (bring layers!), camping gear, food and water.

Sunday April 29th, we will make breakfast and coffee together in the morning and then ride out around 11am. Bring snacks for the ride out!

Frequently asked questions

Who can attend this "Women's Event"?

This workshop is open to our women identifying and non-binary, bike riders out there. Come as you are! We excited to have you join us.

What level of biking experience do I need to have?

This event is designed to be challenging, yet approachable for all riders. This will be an authentic bikepacking experience! It's long and steep in some places and may be difficult at times. However, this is a no-drop ride and we will break often for water and snacks. We're all in this together!

Do I need to have bikepacking experience/gear?

No. If this is new to you, we encourage you to come to the demo night Friday to learn more about packing and gear selection! The Hub has a variety of bikepacking bags available for rent. Please reach out to rentals@hubbicycles.com for more information regarding bag options.

What kind of bike should I bring?

Almost any kind will do! You will see full suspension, hardtails, and gravel bikes in the group. This ride is mostly along gravel forest roads with some trails in the mix. A road bike or commuter bike is not suggested. We suggest having a quick tune up or safety check at your local bike shop before.

Can I bring an E-Bike?

E-Bikes are illegal in Pisgah National Forest. We will obey forest regulations in order to protect and maintain the trails. If you're concerned about skill level or fitness, don't fret! We will be riding at a pace that is friendly to all levels.

I don't have a bike, what can I do?

The Hub rents gravel bikes and hardtail bikes that would be awesome for this route! They also offer bikepacking bag add-ons as needed. Reach out to rentals@hubbicycles.com for more information and a discount code if you’d like to rent a bike and/or bags!

Do I need to come to the Pre-Ride Social on Friday night?

No, the Pre-ride social is a stand alone event open to all women! You do not need to sign up for the bikepacking overnighter to attend. While the Pre-ride social is a great opportunity to meet people and learn more about bikepacking, it is definitely not required.

What else should I bring?

Attendees will be given a suggested packing list and resources for borrowing or renting any additional gear you may need. You will be in charge of carrying your own food and water, camping gear, and clothing layers. The Hub and ride leaders will have First Aid, water filters & extra food/gear/tools.
