CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This class will give you a comprehensive introduction to relief printing with linoleum. Each student will complete a set of 5 printed cards and envelopes with the pattern they design themselves. At the same time, you'll learn how to carve multiple blocks that you can keep and continue to print at home! Each color in the print is made from a different block. So, for example, if you're going to have three colors in your final print, you're going to carve three different blocks. From materials, to the block carving process, inking, and hand-printing, I’ll show you everything you need to know!
After demonstrating the process, the instructor will give you ample time to compose, transfer and cut a design into linoleum. Thinking ahead and coming prepared with ideas or sketches will ensure you walk away with finished work! (Limiting your design to three colors is essential given the size of the block you’ll be working with.) The printing process can be a little messy! While aprons are provided, wearing short sleeves and comfortable clothing is recommended.
At the end of the class, you will have an understanding of the fundamental principles of creating fine art prints, knowledge and skills in the use of basic tools and techniques, several finished blocks that you can continue to use to print at home, and printed stationary to send to all your friends and family! If you are up for a fun and colorful challenge, this class is perfect for you!
