Join Danza Orgánica for a series of poems rooted in the experiences of the working class in Massachusetts!

Danza Orgánica is pleased to share with you our artistic process as we bring three-dimensional life to two poems from poet Martín Espada’s most recent book: Floaters, winner of the National Book Award, 2021. Floaters is a series of poems rooted in the experiences of the working class in Massachusetts, with a focus on the immigrant experience, and the Puerto Rican experience in Puerto Rico and the diaspora. One of the poems highlighted at this event will be “The Five Horses of Doctor Ramón Emeterio Betances”, in honor of El Grito de Lares- which took place on September 23, 1868. This was the first major revolt against Spanish rule in Puerto Rico. The other highlighted poem will be “Letter to my Father”, which is a homage to Martín Espada’s father Frank Espada, and to the victims and survivors of Hurricane María, the worst natural disaster in recorded history to affect the Caribbean. Hurricane María made landfall in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017.We are humbled to embody these stories as seen through the eyes of poet and professor Martín Espada, who will be present to read them with his unique theatricality.
