An Aesthetic Flat Closure Multimedia Event
Join us at Steel House Rockland Maine on October 24 for an event devoted to aesthetic flat closure.
It starts with a FlatWear pop up shop. FlatWear supports women who choose flat closure after a mastectomy by designing stylish, well-fitting clothes that honor and respect their choice to live flat, and to promote flat as a valid option by being a resource for the community.
View the Still exhibit, Nevertheless, I am Still. This powerful, eye-opening show shares surprising, empowering truths found on the other side of going flat after mastectomy. The unspoken potential. The answers to the very things questioned when considering going flat. And the reality for so many who have made this choice. I am Still.
Then settle in for a prescreening of Re/Construction, a documentary that follows extraordinary women from around the world who are confronting systemic bias in medicine, and fighting for the right to choose what happens to their own bodies after mastectomy.
A panel discussion with Kim Bowles, founder of Not Putting on a Shirt, follows with healthcare and community voices talking openly about what aesthetic flat closure is, why it deserves to be offered as an option, and the experience of going flat.
Close the day with a reception in the gallery with refreshments.
