This groundbreaking gathering amplifies the voices of jailhouse lawyers – incarcerated justice advocates who use the law to pursue justice for themselves and their peers.For too long, the loudest voices against mass incarceration has come from outside prison walls. Flashlights aims to shift this, inviting the public to listen and learn from those living directly impacted by the system.Jailhouse lawyers, often working in deep isolation and facing significant challenges, have played a crucial, yet largely unrecognized role in shaping the legal landscape. They have fought for their own rights and the rights of their peers, acting as mentors and counselors within their communities, and demonstrating remarkable resilience in the face of adversity.Flashlights celebrates the transformative power of legal empowerment, highlighting how directly impacted communities can drive change by accessing and shaping the law.
