DEEPER DETAILS

Are you craving to open your creative flow? To increase your capacity to complete projects? This workshop will focus on both those things, along with a little human interaction and community building. At the end of each workshop, participants will leave with a new short piece of writing. These short pieces have been used as lyrics, they have been called “word bursts”, “waking poems”, “neo haikus”, “distilled wisdom”. When this process is applied to a morning writing practice, the pieces can also take on the form of affirmations or intentions for that day.

I will guide participants through the process I use in the mornings to write in a stream of consciousness manner and then craft a short poem that crystalizes feelings-thoughts-images into a concise powerful piece.

Workshops will run for 2hrs, there will be time for everyone to share, and everyone will leave the workshop with a small finished piece of writing.

I hope the tools we dive into will serve each participant not just in developing writing, but also in tuning into to their inherent strengths and personal wisdom.

It is recommended to write on paper with pen this, but typing can work if that method is preferred.

BACK STORY

A few years ago, as a declaration of my belief that artists should create more than promote vanity, I committed to my first social media post of the day being something newly created. I started posting small snippets of my morning pages freewrites. People found them meaningful and my #MorningPages developed a following. I have since self published a collection of them into a small chapbook available on my bandcamp merch page here.

ON MORNING PAGES

Morning pages is a practice of stream of consciousness writing done first thing in the morning. It was popularized by Julia Cameron with the book "The Artists Way", but the practice of writing first thing in the morning to bring greater clarity into the day has been used by many different kinds of people for a long time.
