Down Payment Assistance (DPA) programs provide funds to assist qualified buyers with down payment and closing costs to purchase a home. The funds are provided as a no-cost or low-cost second mortgage.

2.	What are the down payment assistance requirements?

To qualify must complete a HUD-approved homebuyer education and the CLT class. UF/IFAS Extension is a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency that provides home buyer education and Community Land Trust courses.

3.	Does my spouse need to attend the class?

Accepted Answer

Yes, everyone who will be on loan must attend the program. Please ask your Extension Agent for your county.

4.	Do I need to attend the Home Buyer Education class in the county where I will purchase a home?

Accepted Answer

Please check with your county; some have contracts with specific agencies and will only accept their certificate for down payment assistance. However, the certificate of completion is nationally recognized and can be used in any state, county, or city in the United States.

5.	When does the certificate expire?

Accepted Answer

Certificates of completing the Home Buyer Education course are in effect for up to 24 months for most DPA programs. The certificate expires 12 months after the date of completion for the Florida Housing Financial Corporation Bond program.

6.	How do I know if I am eligible for down payment assistance? How much funding is available to me?
