FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION COURSE

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Course Number 2222

This instructor course is designed to provide the student with the information required to be

certified as a Firearms Instructor.  Application must be made to the Commission on Law

Enforcement for the Firearms Instructor Certificate and there will be a fee charged for the

certificate.

Length of Course:    40 hrs

 

Evaluation Process:

 Marksmanship – The student will be required to shoot three courses of fire

(revolver/auto-pistol/shotgun) on the first day with a passing score of at least 90%.  The student will get two attempts to pass on each course of fire.  If the student is unable to achieve 90%, then they will not be allowed to continue in the course.  This is not a learn how to shoot type of course.  It is a learn how to teach others to shoot.

 

Gun-Handling Skills – The student will be evaluated on the proper and safe handling of

weapons during all live-fire and dry-fire exercises.  PASS/FAIL

 

Tactical Shooting – The student will be evaluated during low-light / dynamic / and scenario

shooting situations.  PASS/FAIL

 

Range Operations – The student will be required to develop a qualification

course of fire meeting TCOLE standards and conduct this course of fire at the

 range during live fire exercises.  The student will be evaluated on Range Commands,

Observation / Safety Skills, Topic Presentation.  PASS/FAIL

 

Written Examination - The student will be required to pass a written examination with a score

of at least 90%.

 

Equipment List:

1.         Clothing suitable for both classroom and range.

2.                  EYE / EAR protection.

3.                  Duty gear to include holster and ammunition carrier.

4.                  Auto-pistol (at least 9mm) with three magazines

  1. 12 ga. police type shotgun.

6.                  300 rds of pistol ammunition for auto-pistol.

7.                  100 rds of .38 special ammunition for revolver.

8.                  20 rds 00 buckshot/5 rds slug for shotgun.

9. 50 rds birdshot

  1. Revolver

11. Vest mandatory on range

12 . AR 15/ 100 rds

  1. Ten targets any style
