About this event
The cold months are fast approaching and with them the threat of colds, flus, and other ickies. Thankfully, many immune supporting herbs are easy to grow, accessible, and ready to harvest for medicine making.
Fire cider is an old folk medicine with tremendous sickness fighting and immune boosting properties. It is made with a plethora of plant allies including turmeric, garlic, ginger, horseradish, and citrus.
Come join us Saturday, October 9th from 11 - 1:30 pm for an interactive winter medicine workshop. We'll sample an immune boosting tea, take a tour of the Garden, and harvest some herbs to make our very own fire cider. We'll also explore how to harvest, divide, repot, and overwinter turmeric.
Garden gate opens at 10:45. We'll meet on the patio for tea & introductions at 11, and start our class together at `11:15. Bring your favorite tea cup, notebook, harvest basket, empty medicine jar, & plant tale. Leave with curiosity, connections and a full heart.
The rain date for this event is Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 11-1:30 pm. However if there is heavy rain on Saturday, the facilitator may choose to harvest before guests arrive and still run the workshop, inside, on October 9th. In the event of inclement weather, registered attendees will receive an email by 9am Saturday, October 9th with a decision.
Participants must wear a well-fitting mask covering mouth and nose when using indoor facilities, and outdoors when closer than 6' to any community member whose comfort requires it - regardless of vaccination status.
Three half-price scholarship tickets are available for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color). Email greenfarmacygarden@gmail.com to claim one!
**Note: Be sure to bring a clean, empty jar or containers to take your fire cider sample home in. Dress for the weather and insects. We are also accepting donations of Any size glass jar, clean or no, lid or not. Thank you & we look forward to seeing you in the garden!
