Finding balance between modern and ancient ways
Join Seth Hughes, Monica Wilde, Poppy Okotcha and Finnegan Tui on a panel/Q&A as we chat about finding balance between modern and ancient.
To live in the modern world I've always felt like I've had to compromise on integrity. How can I truly be at peace with myself whilst directly, or indirectly, taking part in systems of exploitation and destruction. For many years I wanted to run away, to remove myself from as many of these sysytems as possible. But as I explored the 'running to the woods' directoin, I met more and more people who I deeply respected, who I felt were living in integrity, but hadnt completely seperated themselves from modernity. Instead, they were using the tools of the modern culture to birth and inspire a new way of being from the inside out. They still used smartphones, lived in houses, drove cars and had famililes. They we'rent living secluded in roundhouses in the woods with no connection to the outside world.
This made me change my relationship to integrity. Instead of defining integrity by how perfect I was at leaving modernity behind, now I'm defining it as, how much am I contributing to this new regenerative culture despite my imperfection and dependency on the systems of exploitation. Of course, I'm still trying to decrease my dependency but not to the degree that I'm going to run away completely.
So naturally this is a balaning act, how much should I take part and how much should I seperate myself? These are the types of questions I want to explore on this panel.
I've chosen three beautiful humans who I feel walk this line between ancient and modern in their own way. And I hope, as a group, we can inspire and invite more people to deepen into this often tricky balance.
