Fifth Storm

CounterPulse is building a movement of risk-taking art that shatters assumptions and builds community. We provide space and resources for emerging artists and cultural innovators, serving as an incubator for the creation of socially relevant, community-based art and culture. CounterPulse acts as a catalyst for art and action; creating a forum for the open exchange of art and ideas, sparking transformation in our communities and our society. We work towards a world that celebrates diversity of race, class, cultural heritage, artistic expression, ability, gender identity & sexual orientation. We strive to create an environment that is physically and economically accessible to everyone.

CounterPulse

Fifth Storm is the fifth experiment, the fifth investigation in the creation of The Storm in My House. This work concerns the precarious position artists, and all of us, maintain in the face of social upheaval, economic inequality, displacement, and deterioration of the social safety net; bodies experiencing crisis and humor; recorded voices of those who struggle for food and shelter; an excavation of the perceived lines between any two of us. inkBoat is a physical theatre and dance company founded by Shinichi Iova-Koga in 1998. With members based in San Francisco, Luzern, Paris and Berlin, the company performs throughout North America, Europe, South Korea and Japan in theaters and site-specific locations. Repertory and research integrate the interplay of multiple artistic disciplines and viewpoints, both experimental and traditional, resulting in original performance compositions. Themes and subjects arise from meticulous examination of everyday life, with primary content arising from the body, resulting in both refined and raw expressions.
inkBoat’s mission is to create performance works and to offer classes and workshops for students. The company combines traditional and experimental forms—utilizing dance, theater and music. inkBoat’s collaborative artistic process promotes investigation and the professional growth of students and performers in San Francisco and abroad.
