On Thursday, January 20th, we invite you to join National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) for a spirited virtual discussion with a panel of experts from academia, journalism, and fiction writing.

What does a post-Roe world look like? What does the future of the reproductive justice movement hold? And what is the role of narrative—the stories we tell, the way we tell them, and whose voices are included or omitted—in debates about abortion rights, "fetal personhood," and bodily autonomy? Each of our panelists is uniquely poised to address the role of narrative and storytelling in the current reproductive justice movement.
In Leni Zumas's novel, Red Clocks, abortion is once again illegal in America, in vitro fertilization is banned, and a "Personhood Amendment" grants rights of life, liberty, and property to every embryo. While entirely fictional, the struggles faced by the four protagonists are eerily familiar to anyone aware of NAPW's work.
Caitlin Cruz, senior reporter at Jezebel, has covered a range of reproductive justice topics including the criminalization of pregnancy, state-level abortion bans, and the Supreme Court cases threatening Roe v. Wade.
Law professor Khiara M. Bridges, who also serves on NAPW's board, has written many articles concerning race, class, reproductive rights, and the intersection of the three. She is also the author of three books: Reproducing Race: An Ethnography of Pregnancy as a Site of Racialization (2011), The Poverty of Privacy Rights (2017), and Critical Race Theory: A Primer (2019).
As we face a future where the boundaries between reality and dystopian fiction continue to blur, the stories we tell about bodily autonomy, abortion, and pregnancy can play a critical role in raising awareness and achieving justice. This discussion, moderated by NAPW's Lynn M. Paltrow, will also provide attendees the opportunity to participate and ask questions.
While there is no fee to attend this event, a suggested donation of $25 would be highly appreciated. All funds raised will go to support NAPW’s work as we fight for the rights of pregnant people and those with the capacity for pregnancy.
