Fiber Basics: Textiles Demystified

The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana.Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses.After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.

Want to know which fibers and yarns can be mixed without problems? What are the &quot;new age&quot; fibers and how can they be used? We will discuss the new fibers on the market and how they fit into the world of textiles. You will learn about fiber variations and characteristics that affect spinning, weaving, wearability, and fiber care. You will learn to identify fibers using the microscope and other methods. Green: masks optional. Yellow and Red: masks required.Your fee will be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. If a student cancels for any reason, credit card and Eventbrite processing fees are not refundable.
