Fern Identification Workshop
This workshop will feature a presentation, a collection of live specimens, and a fern walk to introduce you to the incredible world of ferns
A FOCUS ON THE NATIVE FERNS OF DISTANT HILL
Join fern fanatics Michael Nerrie and Nate Marchessault for this workshop on fern identification. The one hundred and fifty-five acres of forest, fields, and wetlands of Distant Hill Gardens and Nature Trail contain over two dozen species of native ferns.
The workshop will include a presentation with a collection of live specimens, followed by a short walk to practice your newly learned skills. This program is a follow-up to the Evergreen and Tardy Fern Workshop held in fall 2025, but you do not need to have attended that event to participate. This time, we will explore the full range of fern species that grow in our region.
You'll learn how to identify each fern by their unique characteristics. Get up close and personal with these fascinating plants, as we explore their habitats and observe their intricate structures.
Whether you're a seasoned botanist or simply curious about the natural world, this event is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your understanding and appreciation for ferns!
