February 2017 EARN Meeting

EARN(EmploymentAssistance &ResourceNetwork)is one of Westchester County's perennial faith-based groups specifically designed to assist the unemployed, underemployed and others in a state of career transition. EARN been holding monthly meetings since 1989.The program was established by a small group of parishioners with human resources backgrounds with the intent of educating attendees about the job search process and by providing them opportunities to develop their networking skills. Essentially, EARN's coordinators help individuals to learn what it takes to uncover job leads and to increase their number of potential contacts. Not an employment agency, EARN provides valuable resources to connect attendees to work, but does not provide job placement. The monthly meeting has four phases. Initially, there isNews You Can Use-- an update on events. This is usually followed by a knowledgeable guest speaker who delves into various aspects of the job search, such as resume preparation, networking, negotiating and interviewing. Third, a coordinator facilitates a formal networking process whereby each participant tells of his/her background, aspirations and job search successes/setbacks experienced over the last month. Finally, informal networking takes place. Attendees do a one-on-one or small group interactions, for example, depending upon what transpired in the earlier networking phase.EARN also publishes a monthly newsletter entitledEmployment Exchangewhich lists job openings and situations wanted.VisitEARNatStPats.comfor more information.

Feburary's EARN presentation is about LinkedIn, so that you have information about what's new and learn tips to a better profile that will make 2017 your LinkedIn All-Star year.
This month's speaker is Judith H. Jones, a communications leader with extensive and diversified communications experience.
Most recently, Judy was with AIG, responsible for an internal communications team, who accelerated adoption of a major organizational restructuring. Prior to that she was with the New York Times Company, where she managed projects and provided communications advice and support to the Chairman and CEO. Currently, she is serving on the steering committee of the Westchester Networking Organization.
And that's what gets Judy going every morning -- it's the power of networks. Multiple studies of business performance and individual performance have shown that people networking with people yields tremendous value. For this reason, she has made it a priority to learn as much as she can about live and online networking, including LinkedIn.
In order to assist us with advance meeting preparation, please be sure to RSVP to this invitation.
EARN has been ministering to the people of St. Patrick’s Parish, and the surrounding communities of the lower Hudson Valley (and beyond) for more than a quarter century.  Please help spread the word to those who need our ministry’s help in these challenging times.
