Description

Many individuals and groups have expressed the intent to attack the United States with biological weapons. In order to further their plans, these individuals may target laboratories, biotechnology companies, scientists, and students. The workshop goal is to improve the cooperation among law enforcement agencies and research institutions to mitigate potential biosecurity issues that may affect public health and safety.

The FBI Academic Biosecurity Workshop will:
Increase awareness of potential biosecurity risks,
Identify biosecurity roles and responsibilities of law enforcement agencies,
Identify biosecurity roles and responsibilities of research institutions,
Identify benefits and potential obstacles to improve cooperation among law enforcement agencies and research institutions regarding biosecurity,
Identify methods of improving communications among biosecurity stakeholders, and
Establish and solidify mutually beneficial relationships between law enforcement, research institutions, and community stakeholders.
