Fancy Darning

Old Flame Mending

Take your darning to the next level with multi-color darning patterns.

Learn to add visual interest to your darning projects by incorporating woven patterns into surface patch darning, taught by our one and only darning specialist, Wendy Lloyd! Using yarns of contrasting colors, we will create sample darns of three stylized weaves: textured checkerboard, twill, and houndstooth.Basic surface patch darning technique will not be taught in this workshop. Participants who have not previously attended a darning workshop at Old Flame Mending should be comfortable with this technique before registering. You can darn items like sweaters, socks, knit items, and medium weight wovens (ie cotton flannel, wool flannel, linen, gauzy fabrics). Items not recommended: denim, lightweight knit or woven fabrics, t-shirts, leather/suede. Bring 1-4 items with you to mend.Supplies needed: a darning egg, tapestry needle, embroidery needle, scissors, embroidery floss or yarn, practice fabric, and a garment to darn. Darning kits available for purchase as an add-on to your ticket!
