In this 90 minute training, Deanna, the creator of a novel technique for treating trauma, anxiety and depression will present a brief overview on the research study recently concluded at NorthWestern and University of Wisconsin Whitewater. The presenters will discuss how the role of unhealthy anger from untreated trauma can create systemic and intergenerational problems.


As a family therapist, Annette, was a research site for this new treatment and will use 3 family cases to model the systemic impact of treating childhood trauma on one member on the family system. An overall discussion of how untreated trauma in any one individual in the family can impact the families treatment progress.


Learning objectives

As a result of participating in this session, participants will be able to:


1. Identify three ways early trauma can affect family systems


2. Effective use of systemic theory to psychoeducate clients on how untreated trauma can hold their entire family system in negative patterns.


3. Use" both/and" techniques to break cycles of black and white, avoidant thinking patterns in individuals and family.
