Tai Chi Class-TEACHING SELF-DEFENSIVE SKILLS

Our primary goal is working with parents to develop healthy, happy, strong and confident boys and girls who become outstanding citizens in our community.

The classes are taught in a safe, fun, and challenging group environment with instructors that are attentive to the individual needs of the students. Our children’s program is broken down into three age groups, 3-4, 5-7, and 8-12. This allows age-appropriate learning and a better instructor to student ratio.

These classes have an emphasis on physical fitness, listening skills and begins the fundamental instruction of self-defense and bully prevention through the fundamentals of the Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club Curriculum.

FUN AND CHALLENGING

While our instructors take pride in the team accomplishments, and those of their students, their primary goal is working with parents to develop healthy, happy, strong, and confident young men and women who become outstanding citizens in our community. The Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club was created to provide children ages 3 and up with an environment that allows them to experience and understand core values like focus, self-confidence, self-discipline, dedication, cooperation, and respect.

Classes are taught in a fun and challenging group environment with instructors that are attentive to the individual needs of the students. Strive 2 Fitness prepares kids and teens to handle serious situations such as bullying which is more prevalent in these age groups and can be more intense with outlets such as social media.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

• Enhanced Coordination & Gross Motor Skills

• Increased Self-confidence & Self Control

• Improved Behavior & Respect for Others

• Increased Attention Span & Focus

Rooted in honor, respect, wellness, and discipline, you will find martial arts a great supplement to at-home parental guidance. Many parents find that the benefits derived from kids taking martial arts classes are second to none. We are certain you will, too.

Between school and homework (and driving you a little crazy in their free time), kids spend much of their day sitting in front of a screen. That is why extracurricular activities that allow them to release their energy, like Kung Fu Kids Club classes, are so important. Strive 2 Fitness’ Kung Fu Kids Club will give your children the tools they need to take care of themselves physically and mentally while having fun. Establishing a strongly rooted foundation in Kung Fu basics and good martial ethics, our primary goal is to instill not just confidence, but good character in your kids.

Our Kung Fu Kids Club classes are structured through a customized curriculum made specifically for children that you will not find anywhere else in the Greater downtown St. Louis area. Our instructors use a multisensory teaching approach to ensure our students retain the lessons and practices regardless of if they are visual, auditory, tactile, or kinesthetic learners. Our program is set up to provide children with a platform to gain a lifelong love of martial arts and an avenue to become better citizens, students, and human beings.

Kung Fu Kids Club at Strive 2 Fitness is best for:

• Improving Concentration

Some activities allow children to simply show up and go through the motions, or just be a passenger on a team. This is not the case at Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club classes. Our Kung Fu Kids Club classes rely on active listening and observing to learn new moves and sequences. In addition to improved concentration, your kids will learn to develop quick reactionary skills in order to change direction instantaneously.

• Knowledge of Basic Self-Defense

Peaceful conflict resolution is a pillar at Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club. However, there are instances when self-defense becomes necessary. While we hope your children will never be in these situations that require self-defense, it is a lifesaving skill. In a dangerous scenario, basic self-defense can give your children the ability to protect themselves. Our instructors stress the importance of being aware of your surroundings and who you are always with. Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club is the best way for kids to learn defense skills so that you worry less as parents, and they feel safer.

• Discipline

Teaching your kids to block, kick, and punch does not equate to them becoming more aggressive in their day-to-day life. Quite the opposite, in fact. A recent study by the National Institute of Health shows that martial arts can reduce aggressive behavior as it teaches structure, discipline, and self-control. Over time, your kids will learn to be accountable for their own actions as well.

• Coordination

The proper development of your kids’ motor skills depends on coordination and balance. One of the major physical benefits of Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club is for students to learn how to use their bodies and react quickly. Through punching, kicking, and jumping, your child will develop the coordination needed to excel in any physical activity. Many of these maneuvers also require fast changes in direction, which can improve balance.

• Reduced ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) Symptoms

Some parents of children with ADHD report improved symptoms after enrolling their child in martial arts. Here at Strive 2 Fitness, we believe the repetitive practice on learning to focus on our Kung Fu Kids Club helps children facing these challenges. Many of the basic tasks in our classes involve specific targets, which means children must focus their technique in one place. Whether it is a kicking shield or punching bag, they learn to “zone in” on the task at hand. This helps sharpen the skills that are often challenging for children with ADHD. According to a recent study, Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club are great for children who learn and think in various ways. • Healthier Living Skills

Physical fitness is essential for proper growth and development. In addition to eating a healthy diet, it is vital for kids to learn the value of being active. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily for children aged 6-17, plus at least three days of muscle- and bone-strengthening activity per week. When your child takes two Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club classes a week, they have almost met their full requirement. Also, a recent Harvard Health study showed that a 125-pound person can burn 300 calories in just 30 minutes while practicing martial arts.

• Memorization

Retention is an important skill to master. Young kids studying martial arts at Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club classes are taught to memorize important personal details. This may include their address, phone number, and a parent’s cell number. In an emergency, this information is crucial, and also goes hand-in-hand with our self-defense teachings, but it is the concept of memorization that serves them for years to come. As your children work through the various levels of martial arts for kids, they will need to also memorize techniques and forms.

• Teamwork

While the practice of martial arts is highly introspective, there are exercises and activities that call for teamwork. Partnering with classmates to practice various strikes or blocks provides an opportunity to master the art of working with others. Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club classes require students to practice moves on each other (sparring) once they reach a certain level. This is one of the many social benefits of martial arts. This gives kids the skills needed to pursue positive social interaction at school and in other activities. The S2F instructors also teach the kids to be respectful of one another and to encourage and support each other on their martial arts journeys.

• Respect

The study of martial arts has long been tied to the concept of respect. It is one of the core values of Strive 2 Fitness. From day one, kids will respect our instructors, as well as their parents, teachers, siblings, and peers. This concept is taught immediately by requiring eye contact and the trademark martial arts bow. By stressing the importance of respect in the Strive 2 Fitness studio, your children learn to transfer this to everyday life.

• Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem

Enrolling your child in Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club classes does amazing things for their confidence. Unlike team sports, the only person to compete against is yourself. This speaks to the many mental benefits of martial arts. While some kids struggle with the highly competitive nature of teams and the idea of letting others down, our Kung Fu Kids Club can boost their confidence through slow and steady growth as an individual.

The Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club classes are rooted in teaching the importance of personal growth rather than competition, so there is no pressure for your child to compare themselves to others. Starting martial arts at Strive 2 Fitness Kung Fu Kids Club helps your child feel more confident in themselves and in everything they do.

You may have recently been told by your doctor or boss to take a Tai Chi class for your health or to relax. If so, you are not alone. Today’s busy non-stop world with all its uncertainties, pressures, and demands, can leave you stressed with loss of energy and feelings of anxiety. One of the best ways to learn to relax while getting in shape physically is through Tai Chi. With Strive 2 Fitness Tai Chi classes you will learn how to let go of years of built-up tension while improving your flexibility, balance, physical strength, and overall well-being. When you think of Tai Chi, a picture of people at the park moving slowly in unison might come to mind. It is true that Tai Chi is a moving meditation and is taught through slow, purposeful movements.

However, it is also one of the oldest martial arts! Strive 2 Fitness Tai Chi classes teach the fundamental basics and principles needed to see Tai Chi as not just a meditative experience, but an interactive class, as well. Students will have the option to add aspects of Tai chi Quan to their Tai Chi practice the learning of two person drills and Push Hands. This allows the student to experience the martial aspect of Tai Chi by finding out the martial arts meaning behind the lovely, graceful moves utilized in Tai Chi forms.
