About this event

Late October is a wonderful time to reflect on new knowledge gained and to tie together the observations of a changing landscape as fall settles in. In this class, we hope to bring together as many of our 2023 PDC students and past alumni as possible to participate as a community.

We'll start the day by planting some trees together as part of the ground-breaking for the Tree of Life. Then, we will hear presentations from our PDC Project Track students and provide feedback to help them move forward with their evolving designs. Any alumni will be welcome to share their experiences with projects they may actively be working on as well.

At the end of the day, we will gather around a fire at the plateau overlooking the Middletown Valley for Full Moonrise, which will be at 6:07 p.m. We'll take this time to do a remembrance of those who have passed on, and reflect on how their stories and ours have intertwined to make us the people that we are and want to become. We will then have a musical jam session AND a Halloween Tree-or-Treat scavenger hunt.

General agenda for the weekend's events:

FRIDAY, October 27th

Folks are welcome to come set up camp and enjoy a fire together! You can arrive any time after 3pm.

SATURDAY, October 28th

9:30ish to 2ish

We'll be planting some plants and prepping for the Tree of Life project.

2ish

Lunch (bring our own)

Setting up tents

3 ish to 5ish

An opportunity for everyone to share what is alive for them (their project, their hopes and dreams, what they are studying, or what they are excited about) AND our current design students will give a brief presentation on their projects. We invite everyone to give feedback.

5:15 ish

Catered Dinner (Plant-based and GF options available). Potluck (as friends) is also welcomed! Please bring your own beverage. Refrigeration will be available.

6:09 Moonrise Cacao Ceremony: "Remembering our loved ones" Share a story, read a poem, say a name. My grandfather told me that we live on in the stories that people tell about us... I think that's part of the story anyway.

Followed by a drum circle around the fire and a fun treat for the kids! Families are welcome and adults with kids (or without) will be setting up a halloween scavenger hunt for the little ones (and medium ones).

SUNDAY, October 29th

Gentle yoga at 10am. You are also welcome to walk the land at your leisure.

+ This class counts toward the permaculture design certification, if you have signed up to take the PDC. There are 6 PDC credit hours given for attending this class.
