Fall CNSTAT Public Seminar

The Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education – one of six divisions within the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine – works to advance the frontiers of the behavioral and social sciences and education and their applications to public policy.The goal of our work is to provide independent, evidence-based advice to decision-makers on key questions of national importance, such as:What is the best way to measure levels of poverty in the United States?How do parents, teachers, and policymakers know how well students are learning?How can the public participate most effectively in decision-making about the environment?Why does life expectancy differ greatly among high-income countries, and how can the answer to that question help increase the life expectancy of Americans in the future?To answer questions such as these, we gather experts from many disciplines who volunteer their services on study committees to provide independent, objective advice to federal agencies, Congress, foundations, and others through publicly issued reports.

Celebrating 50 years of CNSTAT and Looking to the Future: Toward a 21st Century National Data Infrastructure

National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Building

Please join the celebration of the Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) 50 years of service to the statistical community. The seminar will include a brief review of some of CNSTAT’s contributions over the years, current efforts, and a view towards the future with the presentation of our recent report on Toward a 21st Century National Data Infrastructure: Mobilizing Information for the Common Good. The seminar will be held on Thursday October 13, 2022 beginning at 2:15 pm in the auditorium at the historic National Academy of Sciences Building at 2101 Constitution Avenue. There will be a reception in the Great Hall following the seminar. We encourage in person attendance for this event.* The auditorium is large and will permit social distancing. There will be refreshments prior to the seminar and a reception in the Great Hall following the seminar. The seminar will be webcast for those unable to attend in person. *The National Academies requires that all visitors to NASEM facilities be up-to-date on their vaccinations against COVID-19 per CDC guidance. Visitors must show their official COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (or a digital photo of the card) before entering any National Academies building. This registration information is being collected via Eventbrite.
