2-D MATERIALS EXPLORATION Alice Gould 8 sessions >> Wednesdays, October 2- November 20 7:30-10:30pm, FMC STE 27, $385
In this class we will  gather a collection of the most classic artist’s materials, and find out what they’re all about. We will acquire a small supply of each medium and try out their properties, noting their differences and similarities to one another. We will also learn ways to apply, manipulate, and combine the materials. The gamut will include acrylic paint, gouache, oil paint, charcoal, pastels, graphite, ink, watercolor, and spray paint. The explorations will concentrate on mark-making and experimental works. Everyone is welcome to bring their own talents and interests to the table, if desired, and not required! All you will need are the supplies, brushes and surfaces on which to see what these materials can do. Maybe you will emerge with a favorite, maybe you will love them all!  All levels. ___ Alice Gould received a BFA in 1993 from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in 2000 from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, both in the field of Painting. She grew up in Portland, Oregon, has lived primarily in California's Bay Area, and often spends time exploring wilderness areas. Nature informs her work. Large  and small oil canvases, spirited gouache works-on-paper, and nature photography are homages to life forces, weather, and plant dynamism. Design, craftsmanship and the materiality of art-making are important considerations in her work. She now lives in Inverness, CA.

What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class? Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. <A HREF="http://www.sfai.edu/public-youth-education/public-education/courses" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Visit the SFAI website here</A>, click on your course title, and then click on the blue "Materials List" link underneath the course dates. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff. What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute? All classes, unless otherwise noted, meet at 800 Chestnut Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm. SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, #45 Union, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus. What is the refund policy? Refund requests must be made in writing to <A HREF="mailto:publiceducation@sfai.edu" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">publiceducation@sfai.edu</A>.
For courses that meet for ten sessions or more, a 100% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given if written notice is received at least five business days before the first class. After five business days before the first class, an 80% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received prior to the third class. No refund is given after the class has met three times. Please allow two to three weeks to receive your refund.
For courses that meet for six sessions or fewer, a 100% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received at least five business days before the first class. After five business days before the first class, an 80% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received prior to the second class. No refund is given after the class has met two times. Please allow two to three weeks to receive your refund.
