You know that facilitation is an essential skill, which is why you've worked hard at it: Gathering skills and toolkits from every corner and absorbing best practices wherever you found them. Being self taught, you may wonder: 
"Am I doing it right?"
 or 
"Is there a better way?"
The answer to both of those questions is: yes!
I find it troubling that there are studies showing that more than half of meetings are rated as useless. And with 70% of people disengaged at work, we can do better to transform each interaction we are able to shape in our work.
It's more important than ever to give attention and care to the act of coming together and having productive conversations about what to bring into the world!
<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">Designing Conversations</H2>
In industrial design, graphic design or product design, the materials and levers of design are more clear, the heuristics to apply are more developed, the choices and trade-offs are openly discussed.
Facilitation is more than a series of mindsets and best practices: it's a design discipline! But what are we designing? And what are the levers of design?
Facilitation is the discipline of designing conversations. But how do we mindfully and intentionally design human dialogue?
<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">Intentional Practice: Principles over playbooks</H2>
Over the past two years I've been interviewing people on my podcast, The Conversation Factory, to peel back the layers of conversations design and discover core principles for shaping conversations.
We'll spend a day focused on the principles of transformative facilitation and work together to practice them mindfully.

This day is being offered in the spirit of a gift. The space has been provided free of charge to me, and in return I'd like to gift my time to you. In exchange, my humble request is that you to donate according to the value you feel you will receive from this Facilitation Masterclass. 
What value will you receive from spending a day focused on deepening your facilitation practice? It's not an easy question. Perhaps not very much. The value may seem hard to calculate...how do you put a price on creating a new future? Or transforming a team or organization's direction?
In the end, I don't believe you can approach this from a rational perspective only. I invite you to put aside any preconceived notion and see what amount "feels right." Do you feel generous in a way that feels good - not too much, not too little? Does it honor who you are and honor me and my work at the same time?

Daniel helps organizations and teams to transform and innovate. He designs and facilitates workshops and builds organizational structures that foster agility and productivity. He's also a design entrepreneur, having founded Gothamsmith, a 3D-printed accessories company, and The Design Gym, a design thinking education company, which he exited in 2015. He is now an independent Design Facilitator and Conversation Designer.
Daniel graduated with a masters in Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute in 2007 and has over 10 years working with and scaling design thinking in organizations of all shapes and sizes. Former clients include Capital One, Priceline, Marriott, The Institute of International Education, Abbot Pharmaceuticals, Panasonic and The NYC Public School Innovation Lab.
